Example Event

On August 20, 2013, Organizing for Action Washtenaw held a climate forum featuring three climate researchers from the University of Michigan. The event, which drew over 100 attendees, was held in Dexter, MI, which is located in the Congressional District of the climate skeptic Tim Walberg. The event was not difficult to arrange: of six researchers invited to speak, three accepted. The event was held at the Dexter District Library, which only required a refundable deposit, and which provided a sound system, projector, and screen. We reached out to the media in a number of ways: by emailing a description of the event to various reporters, editors, and even an acquaintance who had worked for the local online media outlet that has taken the place of regular newspapers in our area. We posted the event in every online event calendar we could find, placed flyers in about 20 businesses. In the three weeks leading up to the event, Organizing for Action volunteers phoned supporters in the area to get the word out.
